THE BEST WHITE SAUCE

Looking for an ultimate vegan white sauce, sometimes referred to as bechamel, look no further. This is not only super simple, but also super creamy plant-based sauce which serves as a versatile weapon in the kitchen!

ingredients

  • 8 dl vegan 10-15% fat cooking cream (we used oat cream)
  • 3-5 tbsp corn starch
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp nutmeg (ground)
  • Black pepper to taste

instructions

Ok, brace yourselves –  here we go!

 

  1. Pour everything into a large pot and stir smooth. Start with 3 tbsp of corn starch.
  2. Put on a medium heat and bring to a boil stirring occassionly so it doesn’t catch on the bottom.
  3. Let boil lightly for a few minutes until thickened – continue stirring.
  4. Have a taste to check the salt and pepper balance.
  5. The sauce is done once it has thickened to the consistency of custard or a classic white sauce. If needed add one additional tbsp of corn starch at the time and bring to a boil in order to thicken the sauce a bit more.
